TSS Glenelg

A group from SOE search for the lost wreck Glenelg .The ship foundered at 4am on the 25th of March 1900 with the loss of 31 lives .It was the worst shipping disaster of the time. Mark Ryan and his group from SOE also discovered the wreck of the Alert which was found off Cape Shank .
More news to follow .
After the first search there were promising signs of a wreck close by. Unfortunately it will take another look to hopefully locate the wreck. A further expedition is in the planning stages.

Depending on weather, the SOE group will head out on Sunday 23rd November for another look for the Glenelg.
Update 3/12/08:Weather conditions were unsuitable for the search it will be postponed till late January.

It has been confirmed the wreck of the Glenelg was found 28/6/09 off Wilson's Promontory at approx 1pm est by members of SOE.The ship lies in approx 36 meters and is largely intact. This solves the mystery of one the "Gippsland Runs" lost steamers .One artifact has been recovered for identification of the wreck for heritage Victoria .This is now one Victoria's protected maritime sites.A fresh search for the City of Hobart another Gippsland steamer is planned in the near future.The City of Hobart was lost not far from the Glenelg.
